The operating principle of a double mechanical seal is essentially the same as that of a single mechanical seal. Sealing is achieved by a pair of faces perpendicular to the rotating shaft axis, which remain in contact and slide relative to each other under fluid pressure, spring force from the compensation mechanism, and the action of auxiliary seals to prevent fluid leakage.
